A Catholic, Family, Fraternal Organization Serving the Parish |
What do you know about the Knights of
Columbus?
(A brief history)
The Knights of Columbus
was founded in 1882 by Father Michael J. Mc Givney, a curate at St.
Mary's parish in New Haven,
CT. He formed it to help Catholic Men dedicate themselves to the
ideals of Charity, Unity,
Fraternity and Patriotism.
Our local council (10804)
was founded on February 20,1992. Many of our projects are
designed to assist our Pastor,
support our Church, our families and our Community.
If you are a Catholic man,
age 18 or older and find living your faith difficult in today's world,
or
just want to give something
back, perhaps the K of C is your answer. Reading through the
following list of activities
will help you see the benefits derived from membership in our fraternity.
Families are the Heart of the Knights
With emphasis on family
life, the Knights sponsor a variety of family activities, from communion
breakfasts, KCIC program,
regular dinner gatherings at our church and elsewhere, assisting
Sister Pat with her projects;
to golf tournaments, baseball and hockey outings.
Our Shrove Tuesday affair
and Advent parties are extremely popular and unmatched in the
community.
Some Church Activities
Always prepared to help,
our Knights provide ushers at all our masses and are prepared to take
up the usual collections.
Some of our lectors remain after Mass to assist in the counting of
receipts. Many Knights and
their wives serve as Eucharistic Ministers and are active in our RCIA
(Roman Catholic Initiation
of Adults) program which helps in our parish growth. Others support
our Vocations Program in
the parish and diocese. Our Knights show up in full force when our
Parish Annual Fair is celebrated
in June. This is a time when all kids pitch in to help as well.
Community Involvement
The Knights help feed the
homeless during the Winter Watch. We print a monthly newsletter
which keeps all members
up to date on who's doing what and what is going on. We make
arrangements for the elderly
and infirm to get to market, the doctors, etc.
Our KOVAR and Insurance programs are
special!
Come ask us about them.
Knights Guide and Support our Parish
Youth
The Knights provide an Annual
Drug Abuse and Drunk Driving Family Seminar. The kids
compete in an Annual Free-
Throwing Contest; also our Knights recognize, in a special way, the
outstanding Young Man and
Young Women of the Year in the parish by providing a savings
bond. We honor all those
who participate in the parish with our Annual Appreciation Dinner.
