| An Autobiography in Five Chapters
Chapter I
I
walk down the street.
There
is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I
fall in.
I
am lost...I am helpless.
It
isn't my fault.
It
takes forever to find a way out.
Chapter II
I
walk down the same street.
There
is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I
pretend I don't see it.
I
fall in - again.
I
can't believe I am in this same place.
But
it isn't my fault.
It
still takes a long time to get out.
Chapter III
I
walk down the same street.
There
is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I
see it is there.
I
fall in...it's a habit...but, my eyes are open.
I
know where I am.
It
is my fault.
I
get out immediately.
Chapter IV
I
walk down the same street.
There
is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I
walk around it.
Chapter V
I
walk down a different street.

Are you walking down this street?
Are you or someone you care for falling
into the hole?
Do the hole's edges seem ill defined, the
depth unknown, the slippery slope to the bottom obscure?
Do you or yours need help getting out,
in finding a different street?
So it is with addiction---regardless
of the object of the addiction.
Let those making the journey help you explore
the street and then escape; escape the hole, escape the street, and then
find a better path----regardless of where you are on the street, how many
times you have fallen in the hole, or even if you are uncertain as to what
addiction is or where you are with it.
The Addiction Education/Support Program
is a confidential group meeting of those exploring addiction and working
on a way out, under the guidance of two experienced therapists.
If you wonder if you should be here, you
should.
Come join us in the journey to understanding
and recovery.
