Catechists
What is a catechist? A catechist
is a teacher who witnesses to the Gospel by his/her life of faith.
All parents are catechists, the first catechists their children have had.
A catechist is a believer who wants to share his/her most cherished possession
with others: faith. All of us are catechists to someone at some time
in our lives. Why not take a turn now? You can do it!To prepare you for your role in this ministry,
we invite you to participate in a few Catechist Formation sessions.
Teachers’ manuals and teaching materials are available for all. The
easiest way to become a confident catechist is to be a parent volunteer
for a year. It won’t be long before you are saying “I can do that!”
A lot of parent involvement is needed for
the success of our Christian Formation Programs. We will form as
many classes as needed at each grade level as long as we have the catechists
and the space available. Class size is approximately 15 students.
We do not plan to overcrowd classes due to an insufficient number of catechists.
Each class needs two adults: one lead catechist
and one assistant catechist/parent volunteer. Both usually attend
the weekly classes and receive the same training and materials.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Prayer Leaders
Ideally, Children’s Liturgy of the Word
takes place on most Sundays from September through May at the 8:30 and
10:30 Liturgies. Children 4 years old through 2nd grade are divided
into two groups to experience prayer at a child’s level. Children
return to the main assembly at the Preparation of the Gifts. It is
not babysitting, but a true Liturgy of the Word.Training is conducted each Fall for Prayer
Leaders and others wishing to be involved. Scripts are mailed each
week to the Prayer Leaders and Parent Volunteers to enable preparation
for the upcoming Sunday.
The success and continuity of this ministry
relies on the parents of the children participating. Four Prayer
Leaders and four Parent Volunteers are needed each Sunday. If you
are willing to become a Prayer Leader, please sign up for Children’s Liturgy.
If your child is participating in Children’s Liturgy of the Word and you
do not feel confident to lead, we ask that you sign up as a Parent Volunteer
to assist those who do lead. Teens are also invited to serve in this
Ministry.
