Many people who grew up as Catholics and have faded from their faith in recent years, did not move on to join another formal church. Rather they simply lost interest and desire to go to Mass regularly and participate in church activities. Possibly you are one of these people.
Could it be that your children have grown and moved on and it was your efforts to be a good parent that had taken you to church in recent years? Maybe you had simply grown tired of the same old Mass ceremonies, music, and even the people that you had been around for so many years. Very often the modern culture of working too hard, having too many things, going too many places, and even playing too hard did not leave time for you to go to Mass or other church activities.
Now though, you are starting to realize that there are certain things missing from your life that you do not feel particularly good about. Something is missing. Somehow you might not have as many friends as you had hoped. Possibly you are at a point in your life where you would like to do more for others but really don’t know where to start. You might even yearn for the wonderful days of your youth, where the greatest people you have ever known seem to live. Possibly you have made certain mistakes in your life or you have been hurt by other people or events. Most likely though you look in the mirror and think or worry that you are not as great of a person as you had hoped to be, that you are someone your parents would be proud of, that you are someone that you yourself are proud of.
Like so many things in life, there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that starting to go to Mass again WILL NOT automatically make you the person you want to be. As a matter of fact, if you take the same approach to Mass and church as you have in the past, you will likely fade away again in the near future.
The good news though is that coming back to Mass and church can simply be the greatest thing that could ever happen to you, but you have to come at it from a whole new wonderful angle. Mass and your Catholic church is where your great friends, old and new, are. It is where there are great opportunities for you to help others and do it as part of a great team. It is where your great memories live and even come alive if you open your mind and heart to it. Most importantly, with the you taking the right completely new approach, you can put it all together….Mass, charity, comradery, fellowship, and complete empathy for others….leading you to your true dream and goal of being someone that people admire and you yourself are proud of.
