What is the Benefit of Composting? reduces landfill waste, reduces need for synthetic fertilizers, helps carbon sequestration, reduces soil erosion and retains more water
What Can be Composted at Holy Family? All food, fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, bones, grains, eggs and shells, coffee grounds and filter, food-soiled paper, tea bags (remove staples) and paper towels.
Is there a Cost to Composting at Holy Family? An initial $20 membership fee will be collected to offset the cost of compost pick up.
Where do I get Compostable bags and a Composting Bin? Once you join the HF Composting team, you will receive ten 2.5 gallon compostable bags. You can purchase bags in rolls of 30 bags for $5 at the Church Gift shop after all the masses. You can purchase a kitchen countertop bin at many shopping outlets.
Do I have to Use Compostable Bags? Yes you must use compostable bags to place in the bin at church.
How do I Compost at Holy Family? Once you are a member, begin by filling your compostable bag with food scraps. Tie up your compostable bag with food scraps. Do not you plastic or metal ties. Drop off your tied, compostable bag to Church of the Holy Family and deposit in the bin located outside by the garbage bins. Do not bring food scraps into the church. It's that easy.
How do I get into the composting bin? The bin has a lock on it. Once you join the composting team, you will be given the lock combination. Please remember to lock the bin when you are finished.
